Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
Last updated: May 7, 2026
What Is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers who do not participate in insurance networks are required to give patients who are uninsured or self-pay an estimate of expected charges before providing services. This is called a Good Faith Estimate.
Because The Speech Path SLP is a private pay practice, this applies to all of the families we serve. We want you to understand your rights and feel confident about the cost of your child's care before we begin.
When You Will Receive One
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency health care services, including speech-language therapy.
- If you schedule services at least 3 business days in advance, we will provide the estimate within 1 business day of scheduling
- If you schedule services at least 10 business days in advance, we will provide the estimate within 3 business days of scheduling
- You may also request a Good Faith Estimate at any time before services are scheduled
What It Includes
Your Good Faith Estimate will include:
- A description of each service we expect to provide
- The expected charge for each service
- The date(s) we expect to provide each service
- The name and National Provider Identifier (NPI) of the provider
- Diagnosis codes, if applicable
- The service location
If Your Bill Is Different
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may be eligible to dispute the charge. This protection is in place so that you are not surprised by costs that were not discussed in advance.
How to Dispute a Bill
If you believe you have been overcharged relative to your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to start a dispute resolution process. To do so:
- Save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate
- Contact the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) at www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059 to learn more and start the process
There is a $25 fee to start the dispute process, and the decision is made by an independent reviewer.
Our Commitment to Transparency
At The Speech Path SLP, we believe you should always know what to expect when it comes to the cost of your child's care. We are happy to discuss fees, session frequency, and estimated total costs at any point. We are a private pay practice and accept credit cards, cash, HSA, and FSA. We provide super-bills that families can submit to their insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is parent-led and outcomes vary by plan.
