  • What are the benefits of private speech & language services?
Choosing private speech and language therapy can offer several advantages for your child and family: Progress: The primary goal of private therapy is to help your child master their communication goals as quickly as possible. With one-on-one sessions, the speech-language pathologist (SLP) is able to give your child undivided attention, allowing for more intensive practice on target goals and faster progress in a shorter period of time. Parental Involvement: Private therapy allows for greater parental involvement. Parents have the option to observe or participate in therapy sessions, and the SLP can provide detailed feedback after each session. This enables parents to understand the goals and practice skills at home, ensuring better carryover of strategies. Access to Services: With county, district, and insurance constraints, children with mild and moderate delays typically do not qualify and do not receive services because they don’t meet the stringent qualifications. In private therapy, your child does not need to meet the strict criteria for services often required by state, county, or school districts. We base our decision to begin therapy on clinical observations, testing, and parent input, ensuring that your child receives the support they need. Whether your child does not qualify for services through other agencies but could benefit from individualized therapy, or if you would like to supplement existing services, private therapy offers the flexibility to meet your needs. Flexibility: Private therapy offers more flexibility in scheduling, making it easier to fit therapy into your family’s routine. We provide year-round services, so your child is not limited to the school year schedule. This is especially helpful if your child does not qualify for summer services. Privacy: Unlike school-based therapy, private therapy does not require any documentation to be placed in your child’s school records. This ensures that your child’s therapy remains confidential, and other students or school professionals will not be aware of the intervention unless you choose to share that information.

We specialize in working with pediatric clients, specifically children aged 18 months through 11 years old. Our services are tailored to meet the unique needs of children at various stages of speech and language development.
  • What types of speech & language delays and disorders do you address?
We provide therapy for a wide range of speech and language delays and disorders, including articulation and phonological disorders, expressive and receptive language delays, and social communication difficulties.
  • How do I know if my child needs speech & language therapy?
If you notice your child is struggling with speech sounds, understanding or using language, social communication, or has difficulty being understood by others, it may be beneficial to schedule an evaluation. We can assess your child’s needs and provide recommendations for therapy if necessary.
  • How can I get started with an evaluation or therapy for my child?
Simply contact us to schedule a free phone consultation. During the call, we will discuss your child’s needs and how we may be able to support their speech and language development.
  • Do you provide parent training/coaching?
Yes, we offer parent training and coaching services. For children who may not have a formal speech or language delay but could benefit from extra support, we provide guidance to help enhance their communication skills. Our parent coaching sessions are tailored to your child's unique strengths and areas for improvement. We work closely with families to provide practical speech and language strategies that can be easily implemented at home, empowering you to support your child's development in everyday situations.
  • What happens during the initial evaluation?
The initial evaluation includes a comprehensive assessment of your child’s speech and/or language skills. Afterward, we will review the results and provide a detailed report with our findings and therapy recommendations.
  • If my child is evaluated, am I obligated to pursue therapy?
No, you are not obligated to begin therapy after an evaluation. We will provide recommendations, and the decision to move forward with therapy is entirely up to your family.
  • How long is an evaluation?
Speech-only evaluations are typically 60-75 minutes in length. Speech and language evaluations usually take 75-90 minutes. These time frames allow us to thoroughly assess your child's communication skills and provide accurate recommendations.
  • Does my child need an evaluation?
If your child has been evaluated within the past 6 months and you have a recent, dated evaluation report, we may be able to work off that evaluation to begin therapy. However, if your child has not been evaluated or does not have a recent evaluation, this will be necessary to ensure we accurately understand their current skills. An evaluation helps us identify the areas of need and guide us in developing an effective therapy plan.
  • Do you provide Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)?
If your child has received an evaluation through their school or another agency and you are seeking a second opinion, we can conduct a thorough and independent assessment of your child's speech and language skills. Our evaluations are designed to provide an unbiased report, which can be shared with your child’s school or other professionals involved in their care. We work closely with parents to ensure all concerns are addressed and that the evaluation provides comprehensive insights into your child’s communication needs.
  • Can I attend the therapy sessions with my child?
Yes, parents are encouraged to attend sessions whenever possible. Your involvement allows us to provide guidance on how to implement therapy strategies at home, which can improve your child’s progress. However, if we believe your child may do better with you out of the room, we have a comfortable waiting room where you are welcome to wait. In such cases, we will provide feedback to parents/guardians during the last 5 minutes of the session to ensure effective carryover of strategies at home.
  • How often will my child need therapy?
The frequency of therapy depends on several factors such as your child's age, the extent of the delay/disorder, availability, and family preferences. Typically, children attend sessions 1-2 times per week. Consistent home practice can reduce the need for frequent sessions.
  • How long will my child need speech & language therapy?
Every child is different. The duration of therapy depends on factors such as the severity of the speech or language delay/disorder, the frequency of sessions, and how much practice occurs at home.
  • How long are the therapy sessions?
Therapy sessions are typically 30 minutes in length. This allows us to focus on targeted goals while keeping your child engaged, motivated, and attentive during the session.
  • Does The Speech Path accept insurance?
We are currently private pay only and do not bill any insurance companies. However, upon request we provide superbill documentation that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
  • What is the cost of speech & language therapy?
We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation where we can discuss your child’s needs. During this time, we are happy to provide specific rates for evaluations and therapy sessions. Although we don't accept insurance, we accept credit cards, cash, FSAs, and HSAs.
